May 21, 2008 - Saltwater Series Update and Report

I hope this report finds you all well and makes you want to go fishing.  All I can say is that I have been very busy traveling up and down the highways running fishing trips and competing in both of the Texas Saltwater Series Tournaments...which is the Texas Trout Series and the Texas Redfish Series.  I returned to POC about 3 weeks ago and the fishing has been up and down here.  We have had some great days with both artificials and live croaker.  Most of the fishing has been best traveling a good ways from POC...because of too clear of water, the fishing has been a little tough around POC.  With this being said, I have been traveling into San Antonio Bay and Lavaca Bay with good results and catching limits of trout.  I know this may sound funny...but yes water can be too clear to have great fishing action.  The funny thing is that when I was in Baffin...I would scout forever to find clear water and now back in POC I am running a long ways scouting for a little murkier water.  Overall I feel that the fishing will continue to be great and only get better around POC.

On the tournaments I am fishing this year, it has been a blast yet very exhausting...here's an update...

I am fishing the Redfish Series with my partner Rocky Whitley and after the first 2 tournaments which were in Flour Bluff and Matagorda, we are setting in 3rd place overall for Team of the Year out of 125 teams, but we are far from being over with 3 tournaments left to go.  Here's a link to the standings for team of the year...

I fished the entire Trout Series with my partner Mark Robinson and we had a great finish in the Championship Tournament held out of Ingleside, Tx this past Saturday.  Going into the championship tournament on Saturday we were setting in 5th place for Team Of the Year and after a great day on the water Saturday and placing 3rd place in the tournament with our 3 trout weighing 17.17 lbs, we moved up and ended the year with 2nd Place Team of the Year Honors.  Here's a link to the final standings for team of the year...

After fishing out of POC for 3 weeks I returned to Baffin on 5-12-08 to run a few trips, get a little pre-fishing in for the trout series championship and found it just as we left it with excellent topwater action.  On my first trip back we managed to land 4 or 5 trout over 28" and I also caught my 3rd best trout ever weighing 10 pounds 2 ounces and I had a customer who beat his personal best twice in one day with a 28" and a 29 1/4" trophy trout...
